Alaska Associate Counselor Supervision
Board-approved supervision by telehealth, anywhere in Alaska.
A Board-approved supervisor in Alaska
I'm Christi Kersten, MA, an Alaska Licensed Professional Counselor and an Alaska Board-Approved Professional Counselor Supervisor. I provide clinical supervision for associate counselors who are accruing supervised hours toward licensure, by secure video anywhere in the state.
I take a limited number of associates and screen for fit, so each associate gets consistent attention and we both know the match is right before we begin.
Alaska's Associate Counselor license
Alaska now has an Associate Counselor license. It is required for supervised hours accrued after March 31, 2027, and the application includes a supervision plan (12 AAC 62.225).
If you're accruing hours now or planning to start soon, it helps to have your supervision arrangement in place early. We'll build your supervision plan together so it reflects your setting and your goals.
Telehealth supervision across Alaska
Alaska's distances make local supervision hard to find in many places. Telehealth supervision works for associates in Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks, and just as well for associates in rural Alaska and communities off the road system, where the nearest approved supervisor may be a flight away.
All you need is a private space and a reliable connection. Online supervision also makes it easier to keep a steady schedule around a full caseload, travel, or seasonal work, since there's no commute.
Who I supervise
- Associates employed at an agency, community mental health center, or hospital
- Associates working in a group practice
- Associates building a self-employed private practice
Each path is welcome. Supervision is shaped around your setting and caseload.
Private practice as an associate
Alaska associates may work in private practice while completing supervised experience. Associates always practice under supervision, but building your own practice during this period lets you finish your hours with systems, documentation habits, and a client base already in place.
It is an option, not a requirement. If it interests you, we can work on intake paperwork, informed consent, EHR and telehealth systems, insurance and private pay, and your online presence alongside your clinical development.
What clinical supervision covers
- Case conceptualization and treatment planning
- Ethical decision-making and professional boundaries
- Documentation that meets professional standards
